Bronze Group:

  • Ages:                                5 - 9 years old
  • Daily Training:                  45 minutes x 5 week
  • Daily Yards:                      300 – 500 yards

Goals:

Build on water safety, achieve an official time in the 50-yard Freestyle & Backstroke.  Introduce Butterfly & Breaststroke with attempting a 25 of each in a official swim meet. Develop body awareness within the water and have fun. Streamlining, workout etiquette, develop body awareness within the water and have fun.

Entrance into Bronze Group:

When joining the team, be able to demonstrate the ability to swim 25-yards unassisted. Once an athlete turns 10 and still in Bronze Group, that athlete will be moved into Silver Group.

Equipment:

Swimsuit, cap and pair of goggles. All other equipment will be provided by Roadrunners.

Necessary skill acquirement from Bronze to Silver:

  • Compete in 2 USA Swimming sanctioned competitions.
  • 50-yard Freestyle & Backstroke with an official time
  • 25-yard Butterfly & Breaststroke attempted in a swim meet.
  • Attend two (2) practices a week
  • Test set of 6x50 kick w/board on 1:50
  • Test set of a 100 IM without stopping in practice

Silver Group:

  • Ages:                                6 – 10 years old
  • Daily Training:                  1 hour x 5 week
  • Daily Yards:                      500 – 1000 yards

Goals:

Achieve an official time in the 50 -yard Butterfly & Breaststroke along with official times in 100-yard Freestyle, Backstroke and I.M. Streamlining, workout etiquette, develop body awareness within the water, have fun and foster a strong interest in the sport of swimming.

Entrance into Silver Group:

When joining the team, ability to swim 25-yards of Freestyle, Backstroke and either Butterly or Breaststroke unassisted without stopping. If progressing into Silver from Bronze, they must have completed the necessary skill acquirements. Once an athlete turns 11 and still in Silver Group, that athlete will be moved into Gold Group.

Equipment:

Swimsuit, cap and pair of goggles. All other equipment will be provided by Roadrunners.

Necessary skill acquirement from Silver to Gold:

  • Compete in 4 USA Swimming sanctioned competitions.
  • 50-yard Butterfly & Breaststroke with an official time
  • 100-yard Freestyle, Backstroke and I.M. with an official time
  • Attend three (3) practices a week
  • Test set of 6x50 kick w/board on 1:20
  • 6x75 Freestyle on 2:10

Gold Group

  • Ages:                                8 – 11 years old
  • Daily Training:                  90-120 minutes x 6 week
  • Dryland;                            5 x week
  • Daily Yards:                      1000 – 3000 yards

Goals:

Achieve an official time for 100 yards in all 4 strokes, 200 & 500-yard Freestyle and 200 IM.  Streamlining, workout etiquette, develop body awareness within the water, have fun and foster interest in the sport of swimming.  

Entrance into Gold Group:

If joining Roadrunners at 11 years old, be able to swim 50-yards Freestyle and Backstroke unassisted without stopping. If the athlete is progressing into Gold from Silver Group, they must have met the necessary skill acquirement. Once an athlete turns 12 and still in Gold Group, that athlete will be moved into Pre-Senior Group.

Equipment:

Swimsuit, cap and pair of goggles. All other equipment will be provided by Roadrunners. It is STRONGLY encouraged that swimmers in Gold Group have their own equipment bags. Equipment bags should consist of swimsuit, cap, goggles, water bottle, snorkel, fins, kick board, pull buoy & paddles.

Necessary skill acquirement from Gold to Pre Senior:

  • 12x100 Freestyle on 1:40
  • 6x75 Freestyle kick w/board on 1:40
  • 6x25 Underwater w/fins on 1:00
    • Athletes must complete 2 of the 3 test sets.
  • Participate in ALL meets held in Albuquerque.
  • Compete in two meets a year outside of Albuquerque.
  • Attend four (4) practices a week

Competed in a sanctioned meet in the following events with an official time:

  • 100 in all 4 strokes
  • 200 Freestyle
  • 500 Freestyle
  • 200 IM

Dryland: Athletes are expected to be able to perform the following exercises:

  • 5 proper air squats in 20 seconds
  • 3 pushups from knees in 20 seconds
  • 30sec forearm plank hold
  • 10 sit-ups in 20 seconds

Pre-Senior:

  • Ages:                                10 – 14 years old
  • Daily Training:                  120 minutes x 6 week
  • Dryland:                            5 x week
  • Daily Yards:                      3000 – 6000 yards

Goals:

Competing regularly in swim meets. Begin traveling outside the state of NM to compete. Build on foundational movements in dryland workouts, foster the ability to kick, build the ability to dolphin kick off all walls in a streamline position Complete understanding of workout etiquette, mastering pace clock management & have fun.

Entrance into Pre-Senior Group:

If joining the team at 13 years old, the swimmer needs to be able to swim 75-yards Freestyle and a 75-yards Backstroke unassisted without stopping. If the athlete is progressing into Pre-Senior from Gold group, they must have attempted all three (3) test sets and achieved an official time in all 7 events. Once an athlete is 14 and has begun 9th grade and still within Pre-Senior group, that athlete will be moved into the Senior Group.

Equipment: Pre-Seniors MUST have their own, equipment bags.

Swimsuit, cap, goggles, water bottle, snorkel, fins, kick board, pull buoy & paddles.

Necessary skill acquirement from Pre-Senior before the start of high school:

  • 20x100 Freestyle on 1:25
  • 6x100 Kick w/board on 1:50
  • 12x25 Underwater w/fins on 50 seconds
    • Athletes must complete 2 of the 3 test sets
  • Attend practice four (4) times per week.
  • To have achieved 4 NMS State Times for 13-14 age group

Competed in a sanctioned meet in the following events with an official time:

  • 200 of all four (4) strokes
  • 400/500 Freestyle
  • 1500/1650 Freestyle
  • 400 IM
    • Must have successfully completed one of the three (3) test sets
    • Have achieved 4 NMS state times for 13-14 age group
    • Have official time in all events listed

Dryland: Athletes are excepted to be able to perform the following exercises:

  • 5 goblet squats w/10lb kettlebell in 20 seconds
  • 3 full body pushups in 20 seconds
  • 1m forearm plank hold 
  • 10 sit-ups w/10lbs in 20 seconds

Senior Group:

  • Ages:                                13 – 18 years old
  • Daily Training:                  90-180 minutes x 9 week
  • Dryland:                            5 x week
  • Daily Yards:                      4000 – 8000 yards

Goals:

Compete at the highest competitive level.

Unless your child has an extenuating circumstance, such as a family emergency or significant illness/injury, they are expected to be on time and attend 7 practices a week. The core values of the group are accountability, effort, commitment and goal setting.

Swimming is a solitary form of competition. That is why the team is so important. Team members train, race and support one another. Having a group of liked-minded athletes who are there consistently at practice all with goals in mind promotes respect for one another and a sense of family which will help make the group stronger when they race.

Entrance into Senior Group:

If the athlete is moving into Senior Group before high school, they must have completed the necessary skill acquirements. When joining the team in 9th grade or later, an athlete must have the ability to swim a 500-yard Freestyle & 400 I.M. unassisted, without stopping and be able to demonstrate the ability to do a 200 of the other 3 strokes, unassisted and without stopping.

Equipment, Senior Group athletes MUST have their own, complete equipment bags for practice:

Swimsuit, cap, a pair of goggles, water bottle, snorkel, fins, kickboard pull buoy and paddles.

Expectations of Senior Group:

  • Attend practice minimum of six (6) per week
  • Compete year around for Roadrunners
  • Travel outside the state of NM to compete
